Chapter 6

“I’d like to speak with Marvin McShay.”

“This is Marvin McShay. Whom am I speaking with?” Marvin asked as he leaned back in his chair, smoking a cigar while he stared out at the city skyline. His latest screw had left twenty minutes ago.

“My name isn’t important, but what is, is the fact that I know you’ve been taking a little extra from the old honeypot.”

“What? Who is this?”

“Don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me. You and I are going to do business together. You’re going to help me take over Costiano’s business. You’re going to bring him down.”

“I am not. I don’t know who you think you are, but I’ll have nothing to do with this.”

“Shut up and listen, you little twit. In two minutes, I can have someone break into your little love nest, torture you and kill you, then make it look like some sort of sexual act gone wrong. No one will even think twice about you. You can be a player on my team or you can be a casualty.”

“I don’t know who this is, or what this is all about, but I’m not buying it.” Marvin hung up the phone. He was shaking despite his denial that the call could possibly be real. Who the hell could it be?

He slowly stood up from the chair and downed his scotch. As he walked toward the door, thinking he should probably double lock the bolt, it crashed open.

He nearly screamed he was so scared. There was one man in black. He had a hard-looking face and eyes that told all that he was evil.

“Who are you? Why are you breaking into my apartment?”

The man closed the door and pointed a Glock at him. “I believe that my boss mentioned I might be stopping in.”

“Your boss? You mean the man on the phone? This is real?” Marvin asked as he slowly took a few steps back. He had never been so scared in his life.

“You’re going to hear the plan. After I tell you, you’re going to promise to not go to the cops, and not tell anyone about this. If you do, I’ll know. I’ll be following you.”

“What is it? What do you want from me?”

“You’re going to help me get to Costiano’s daughter.”

“What? No. No I’m not. I care about her.”

“Bullshit. You want her money and her body.”

“No. I won’t let you hurt her.”

“I didn’t say that I would hurt her. Why do you care anyway? She’s fucking two men right now. The two men planning on buying out Costiano’s.”

Marvin felt immediately sick and angry. How could she do that? How could she go with those men? She belonged to him. They would own the company together.

“Kind of sucks doesn’t it?”

“What?”

“Being the other guy.”

“I don’t believe you. I won’t hurt her or her father.”

“You’re full of shit. Let me explain what you’re going to do, and then you make a decision. Tonight. If the decision is the right one, then you live. Otherwise you die.
